Tummy Tuck
Similar names: Tummy tuck, mini tummy tuck, mini-abdominoplasty.
Pregnancy causes a separation of the rectus (“six-pack”) muscles, which reverses only partially after delivery. For some mummies, the separation persists and remains very wide, giving not only an abdominal bulge and a larger waistline, but also functional problems such as back pain and constipation. The condition, where there is a gap or separation between the six-pack muscles, is known as Diastasis Recti.
For women with mild loose abdominal skin, diastasis recti can be repaired via a short scar and using an endoscope is known as a mini tummy tuck, or a mini-abdominoplasty. If excess skin is present, the excess skin can be removed at the same time to give a more taut abdominal contour. This is a full abdominoplasty. For some patients, if excess fat is a concern, liposuction may be performed at the same time.
